Examinations . The IDEFICS baseline survey took place from September 2007 to June 2008 and formed the basis for the establishment of a cohort of more than 16,000 2 to 9 year old children in eight European countries: Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain and Sweden. IDEFICS/I.Family follow-up study – lifestyle and health. From 2007 to 2016 more than 16,000 participants from 9 European countries participated in the IDEFICS/I.Family study.

Cohort Profile: The transition from childhood to adolescence in European children – how I.Family extends the IDEFICS cohort. Main findings . A main aspect of the IDEFICS project consisted in the elaboration of evidence-based guidelines on preventing diet- and lifestyle-related diseases for different groups (consumers, channels, policy makers). The IDEFICS cohort provides valuable data to investigate the interplay of social, environmental, genetic, physiological and behavioural factors in the development of major diet- and lifestyle ination.
